Aamir Khan is an Indian actor, filmmaker and television talk-show host. He has been described as one of the most popular and influential actors of Indian cinema. He has also been called the “Mr. Perfectionist” of Bollywood.

Early life and background

Aamir Khan was born on 14 March 1965 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His father, Tahir Hussain, was a film producer, and his mother, Zeenat Hussain, was a homemaker. His paternal grandfather, Nasir Hussain, was a film director, producer and screenwriter. He has two sisters, Farhat and Nikhat Khan. His nephew, Imran Khan, is also an actor.

Khan was educated at theBombay Scottish School, Mahim and completed his schooling from there. He then attended Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai and graduated with a B.Com degree.

Career

Khan began his career as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain’s film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973). He played the role of a young boy who is separated from his parents in a terrorist attack. He later appeared in Madhosh (1974), a Hussain film which did not do well at the box office.

In 1984, Khan made his adult acting debut with the film Holi. He played a leading role in the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which was a huge box office success. His performance in the film won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Khan went on to establish himself as a leading actor in Bollywood with films such as Dil (1990), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Andaz Apna Apna (1994) and Raja Hindustani (1996). He won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in the latter film.

In 1999, Khan co-starred with his wife, Kiran Rao, in the film Sarfarosh. The film was a box office success and Khan’s performance was praised by critics.

In 2001, Khan starred in the highly successful film Lagaan. He played the lead role of a villager who leads his fellow villagers in a revolt against the British colonial government. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
