Alex Tyson Carey is an Australian professional cricketer who plays for the Australian national cricket team and South Australian cricket team. He is a left-handed batsman and wicket-keeper.
Carey made his first-class cricket debut for South Australia in November 2016 against Tasmania. He was included in the Australian squad for the 2017–18 Ashes series and made his Test debut in the fifth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
In April 2018, Carey was named in Australia’s squad for the 2018 Commonwealth Bank Test series against England.
In June 2018, Carey was one of twenty-five players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Australia for the 2018–19 season.

Carey was born on 26 August 1991, in Darwin, Northern Territory, to parents David and Kerryn. He has two older sisters, Nicole and Stephanie. His family moved to Loxton, South Australia, when he was five years old.
He attended Loxton North Primary School and Loxton High School. He played his junior cricket for Loxton North Cricket Club.
In 2010, Carey moved to Adelaide to play grade cricket for Tea Tree Gully Cricket Club. He made his debut for the club’s first XI in the 2010–11 season.
In 2012, Carey was selected in the South Australian Under-19 cricket team to play in the 2012 Under-19 National Championships.
In 2013, he was awarded a rookie contract by South Australia. Carey made his List A debut for South Australia in the 2013–14 Matador BBQs One-Day Cup on 3 October 2013, against New South Wales.
In the 2014–15 season, Carey scored his maiden first-class century, with 103 not out against Queensland.
In September 2015, Carey was named in Australia’s squad for the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh. However, he did not play in any matches during the tournament.
In the 2016–17 Sheffield Shield season, Carey was the leading run-scorer for South Australia, with 754 runs in eight matches.
In November 2016, Carey was added to Australia’s Test squad as cover for Matthew Wade, who was suffering from a back injury. However, he did not play in any matches during the series.
In February 2017, Carey was named as the captain of South Australia’s squad for the 2017–18 JLT One-Day Cup.
In April 2018, Carey was named in Australia’s squad for the 2018 Commonwealth Bank Test series against England. He made his Test debut for Australia in the fifth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, replacing Matthew Wade as wicket-keeper.
