Early Life and Career:
Carmella was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, and raised in the town of Walden. She is of Italian descent. Carmella began her career as a dancer, working as a hip hop dancer for various shows and music videos. She also appeared as a background dancer for Beyoncé at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2014, Carmella signed a contract with WWE and was assigned to their developmental territory, NXT. She made her NXT debut in September 2014, and quickly began working as a manager for Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, known collectively as Enzo and Cass.
In January 2017, Carmella made her main roster debut on SmackDown Live, and won a six-woman match to become the number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She went on to win the title from Naomi at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in February, becoming the first and only woman to win the title in the chamber match. Carmella successfully defended the title against Naomi and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 33 in April.
