Kiara Advani is an Indian actress who has worked in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films.
Early life and background
Kiara Advani was born on 31 July 1992 in Mumbai, India to a Hindu Punjabi family. Her father, Jagdeep Advani, is a businessman and her mother, Geneviève Jaffrey, is a French teacher. Advani has an older sister, Sofia, and a younger brother, Mishaal. She is the niece of actor Anil Advani.
Advani’s paternal grandfather, Jai Kishan Advani, was a Hindu Sindhi businessman from Karachi, while her paternal grandmother, Kamla Advani, was a Hindu Khatri from Lahore. Her maternal grandfather, Mohan Jaffrey, was a Muslim from Uttar Pradesh while her maternal grandmother, Leela Jaffrey, was a Christian from Goa. Advani has stated that she was brought up as a “liberal Hindu”.
She did her schooling from Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai and completed her graduation in Mass Media (specialization in Advertising and Marketing) from Jai Hind College, Mumbai.
Career
Advani started her career with a commercial for the soap opera, Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi (2014). She made her film debut with the sports drama film, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016) in the role of Dhoni’s ex-girlfriend, Priyanka Jha. The film was a commercial success and her performance was praised by critics.
She then appeared in the action thriller film, Machine (2017), which was a flop at the box office. Advani’s next release was the coming-of-age drama, Kabir Singh (2019) co-starring Shahid Kapoor. The film was a commercial success and her performance was appreciated by critics.
Advani will next be seen in the upcoming films, Guilty, Laal Singh Chaddha and Indoo Ki Jawani.
