The flashback depicts Kaido’s transformation of the entire area into an industrial wasteland. People were compelled to labour in weapons manufacturing.The water supply has been contaminated, and the land has dried up.Orochi also fed hungry citizens SMILE fruits that were faulty.Wano Country, needless to say, has been entirely destroyed.

One Piece Chapter 1048 ends with a huge clash between Luffy and Kaido, specifically with their Haoshoku Haki. This is made obvious by the black lightning streaks throughout the panels.
