Shruti Haasan is an Indian actress who has worked in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films. She is the daughter of actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. Haasan made her acting debut with the 2010 film Luck, and has since appeared in several commercially successful films.
Early life and background
Haasan was born on 28 January 1986 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. Her father is Tamil, while her mother is Maharashtrian. She has an elder sister, Shruti, and a younger brother, Akshara. Haasan’s paternal grandfather, D. Srinivasan, was a lawyer, while her paternal grandmother, Rajalakshmi, was a housewife. Her maternal grandfather, Tarun Bose, was a film producer, while her maternal grandmother, Indira, was an actress.
Haasan’s parents divorced when she was two years old, after which she and her siblings lived with their mother. Sarika later married actor-director Rahul Dev, which resulted in Haasan gaining a stepfather. Haasan was educated at Abacus in Chennai, until tenth grade. She then moved to Mumbai to study psychology at St. Andrew’s College.
Career
Haasan made her acting debut with the 2010 Telugu action film, Anaganaga O Dheerudu, opposite Siddharth Narayan. The film was directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and produced by Yash Chopra. She then made her Tamil debut in the 2011 action film, 7aum Arivu, opposite Suriya. The film was directed by A. R. Murugadoss and became a commercial success.
In 2012, Haasan made her Hindi film debut with the action thriller, Gabbar is Back, opposite Akshay Kumar. The film was directed by Krish and became a commercial success.
In 2015, Haasan appeared in the action comedy, Welcome Back, opposite John Abraham. The film was directed by Anees Bazmee and became a commercial success.
In 2016, Haasan appeared in the Tamil action film, Singam 3, opposite Suriya. The film was directed by Hari and became a commercial success.
In 2018, Haasan appeared in the action thriller, Race 3, opposite Salman Khan. The film was directed by Remo D’Souza and became a commercial success.
In 2019, Haasan appeared in the action comedy, Spyder, opposite Mahesh Babu. The film was directed by A. R. Murugadoss and became a commercial success.
